Puerto Princesa City – With just a few hours before the official start of the 2025 MIMAROPA Regional Athletics Association (MRAA) Meet, officials, coaches, and tournament managers gathered at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex, Basketball Court on March 11 for the Solidarity Meeting. Led by Dr. Nicolas T. Capulong, CESO III, Regional Director and Overall Athletic Manager, the meeting aimed to ensure a smooth and organized competition by discussing game rules, schedules, and safety measures.

In his speech, RD Capulong reminded everyone of the importance of sportsmanship and acceptance. He emphasized that winning is not the only goal but also learning to accept results with an open mind. “Part of playing is acceptance of the result unless there’s a reason to complain. Sana panatilihin din po natin ang ganitong pag-iisip na maging open-minded po tayong lahat. Gawin po nating mahusay, organisado ang ating laro ngayong taon,” he said.

One of the main concerns raised was the extreme heat in Puerto Princesa. To protect the athletes, coaches, and referees, Capulong announced that outdoor activities might be suspended during the hottest hours of the day. “Kung talagang mainit na mainit ang panahon, isususpend natin ang outdoor activities from 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM hanggang alas tres ng hapon. We have to guarantee the safety of our athletes, of course, the referees and our coaches and trainees,” he explained. He also mentioned the possibility of extending games into the evening, saying, “Kahit abutin tayo ng medyo gabi.”

Aside from competition, Capulong stressed the importance of keeping Puerto Princesa clean. He reminded everyone that the city is known for its cleanliness and urged all participants to be responsible in maintaining it. He also encouraged athletes to uphold MIMAROPA’s reputation as the second-most disciplined delegation in the Palarong Pambansa. “Kahit we don’t bring home the championship or overall champion title, the Most Disciplined Award is already a win for me,” he said.

He also shared his hope that the region will continue to be recognized for its discipline and values. “It is always my aspiration that our delegation for the Palarong Pambansa will bring home—not the whole piece of the bacon, but at least some piece of the bacon. But more than that, sana mapanatili natin sa Palarong Pambansa ang second-best sa most disciplined delegation,” he added.  Assistant Regional Director Cherry Lou Repia also gave an inspiring message, reminding everyone that the event is not just about winning but also about recognizing the hard work and dedication of the athletes. “Gawin natin itong maningning. Life is not about winning, but life is about life lessons,” she said, encouraging participants to make the most out of the experience.
